Service and scheduling

What areas does Electric Heavy Land serve?

We serve 373 communities across North Dakota, from Fargo, Bismarck, Grand Forks and Minot to small towns and rural addresses. Find your town on the locations page.

Do you offer 24/7 emergency electrician service?

Yes. Call (888) 633-7804 at any hour for power loss, sparking outlets, burning smells or breakers that will not reset. See emergency electrician.

How soon can an electrician come out?

Urgent problems are handled the same day whenever possible. Routine work is usually scheduled within a few days, depending on your location and the season.

Do you take small jobs?

Yes. A single outlet, a light fixture or one dead circuit is welcome. See outlet and switch installation.

Do you work on farms and rural properties?

Yes. Shops, bins, wells, yard lights and long feeders are regular work for us. See industrial and ag electrical and garage and shop wiring.

Pricing

How much does an electrician cost?

It depends on the job. Repairs are priced once the fault is found, and projects are quoted in writing. Either way you approve the price before work begins.

How much does an electrical panel upgrade cost?

Cost depends on service size, the meter base, overhead or underground feed and grounding work. Our panel upgrade guide explains each factor, and we provide a written quote after seeing the existing service.

Do emergency calls cost more?

After-hours visits carry a higher rate than scheduled work. We tell you the rate on the phone, and if the problem can safely wait until morning, we will say so.

Can I get a quote over the phone?

For many jobs, yes, especially if you can send photos of the panel and the work area. Larger projects need a site visit.

Common electrical problems

Why does my breaker keep tripping?

Overload, short circuit, ground fault or a worn breaker. Our article on breakers that keep tripping shows how to tell them apart.

Why are my lights flickering?

It ranges from a loose bulb to a loose neutral. See flickering lights: 6 causes. If the whole house flickers, call us.

What should I do about a burning smell or a sparking outlet?

Turn off the breaker and call (888) 633-7804. Read what to do right now. If you see flames, call 911.

Half my house has no power. Is that the utility's problem?

If your neighbors have power, the fault is probably on your side: a main breaker, a failed connection or a damaged feeder. That calls for electrical troubleshooting.

Upgrades and installations

Do I need a panel upgrade for an EV charger?

Not always. A load calculation tells us. See the EV charger guide and EV charger installation.

What size generator do I need?

It depends on what must keep running. Our generator guide walks through sizing, and generator installation covers the install.

Is whole house surge protection worth it?

For most modern homes, yes. See our explanation.

Does my old house need rewiring?

Not necessarily. An electrical inspection tells you what is safe, what needs repair and what should be replaced. See whole house rewiring.

Can you install smart switches and a video doorbell?

Yes, including the neutral wires and transformers they need. See smart home wiring.

Do you do commercial work?

Yes. Offices, retail, restaurants, warehouses and industrial sites. See commercial electrician.
